Li Qiang gives important instructions for university leaders

Li Qiang, chief of the CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee, urged university leaders to attach importance to talent cultivation so as to gain the upper hand in the fiercer competition for talents. He made the remarks Wednesday at the opening ceremony of the summer training session for university leaders in Jiangsu.

The cultivation of talents is the primary mission for universities which are also the talent pool for the society, Li Qiang said.

Li noted that in the short span of four years since the 18th CPC National Congress, the CPC central committee with Comrade Xi Jinping as the core has led the Party and the Chinese people of all ethnic groups to traverse an extraordinary course to usher in a new stage of development for socialism with Chinese characteristics.

Jiangsu has a good foundation and enjoys a high platform for development, which relies heavily on talents of various kinds, Li Qiang said, adding that the province is in bad need of innovative talents, high end talents and pioneering talents so as to respond to the progress of development and future competitions.

The CPC chief hoped that universities in Jiangsu will cultivate more top-quality talents to become the mainstay for social progress through the combination of book knowledge and practice and make continuous exploration with innovation spirits.

Universities should uphold the principle of strengthening morality and cultivate talents and adhere to university spirit while examining the constantly changing world and education to get acclimatized to the changing demand for talents from the progress of society, Li Qaing said.

It is of utmost importance for universities to foster innovation through practices and translate universities’ scientific and technological advantages into productivity, said the provincial CPC chief who also emphasized the importance of cultivating talents with global visions and the necessity of talent exchanges on the world stage.

Li Qiang reiterated that universities should strengthen party building and the CPC chief at universities should perform the duty as the person of primary responsibility while the university presidents should enhance their sense of responsibility. He also demanded that members of the university leadership should perform dual responsibilities on the same position.

The CPC chief concluded his speech by demanding that universities in Jiangsu should do a good job of disciplinary inspection and rectification in accordance with the gist of the 6th session of the 18th CPC National Congress and the decision and deployment of the CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee so as to put into practice the various requirements of comprehensively strengthening Party discipline in the implementation of the tasks for party building

Wang Yanwen, member of the standing committee and head of the publicity and united work front of the CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee, attended the opening ceremony of the training session. Wang Jiang, vice governor of Jiangsu, was also present.
