China’s national youth baseball team was established in Changzhou Beijiao High School on July 10.

The team was co-organized by the Chinese Baseball Association and Major League Baseball (MLB) of the United States. Its establishment signals the expansion of cooperation between the two parties from the national level to the youth reserves.

Thirty baseball players, aged under 15 years old, have been selected from across China and will receive six weeks of training at the MLB Baseball Development Center in Changzhou to prepare for the U-15 Asian Championship which will be held in Japan in November.

The MLB Baseball Development Center was set up in 2011 in Changzhou Beijiao High School. The MLB is responsible for providing professional training for trainees and Changzhou Beijiao High School provides the training venue and cultural curriculum education. This “education-training-integrated” mode has cultivated a batch of baseball talents. Gong Haicheng, one of the trainees of the program, signed a formal contract with Pittsburgh Pirates of the MLB this year.
