Six overseas vocational training providers have signed an agreement with Jiangsu in Yangzhou on May 19 to improve the standard of training.

Jiangsu has nearly 24,000 foreign-invested manufacturing enterprises employing nearly 3.91 million people. Many companies struggle to recruit the highly skilled personnel with internationally recognized vocational qualifications they need. The Sino-foreign cooperative education programs will set international standards for vocational qualifications and cultivate more high quality personnel.

Under the plan, more than 90 percent of technical institutions in Jiangsu will set up Sino-foreign cooperative education programs by 2020, and 20 percent of core courses will be geared around international requirements. Sino-foreign cooperative education programs will train more than 10,000 people.

The program has been rolled out in 16 technical colleges including Changzhou Technician College and Yangzhou Technician College. They are exploring opportunities to cooperate with vocational education and training institutions in Germany, Britain, Austria, South Korea and Australia. The trial aims to introduce foreign professional course systems, build channels for students to study abroad and offer professional development for principals and teachers.
