Nobel Prize winner Professor Michael Kosterlitz has become Soochow University's first chair professor.

Kosterlitz, who won the Nobel Prize in physics last year, was formally appointed at a ceremony on May 21.

At the ceremony, Professor Xinsheng Sean Ling, a well-known physicist from Brown University in the United States, was also employed as a chair professor of SU. Ling is also one of the winners of China's Recruitment Program of Global Experts (known as “the Thousand Talents Plan”), aiming at bringing in overseas top talents to China.

The two professors will be responsible for establishing and leading the Institute of Advanced Studies at SU.
