Suzhou tourism revenue up 4% during New Year holiday

Suzhou received a total of 1.05 million tourists during the New Year holiday this year, with its tourism revenue during this period up 4 percent year-on-year to 1.852 billion yuan ($270 million), according to the city’s statistics bureau.

During the holiday, cultural tourism activities were held throughout Suzhou. The New Year's Eve gala in Pingjiang Road staged Su embroidery qipao show, kunqu and guqin performances, and band performance popular among the young people.

Many other New Year activities in the city attracted numerous local residents and tourists, including the 40th New Year’s Eve Bell Ringing Ceremony at the Hanshan Temple, the 2019 Luzhi Ancient Town New Year Gift Festival, the 2019 National New Year Mountain Climbing Fitness Festival and 5th Suzhou New Year's Day Mountain Climbing Festival in Qionglong Mountain Scenic Area, the Eslite Bookstore New Year Concert, the Special Exhibition on Su Embroidery in Suzhou Museum, the 19th Morning Bell and Evening Drum Ringing Event in Luoxingzhou, Tongli, the 2019 New Year's Day opening ceremony in Zhouzhuang and the 2019 Tourism & New Year Shopping Festival in Taicang.
