On November 17, about 30 foreign reporters visited Zhangjiagang City, the last leg of the 2018 Hi Jiangsu media tour.

The reporters enjoyed Heyang folk song performed by three singers over 60 years old at the Heyang Folk Song Museum in Fenghuang Town.

"Although I don't quite understand the language, I can get the feelings in their performance and moves," said Tan Kah Joon, a reporter with Malaysia’s Sin Chew Daily.

Reporters also marveled at the achievements made at the Yonglian Village of Nanfeng town. The village was established on the reclamation on the tidal flat of the Yangtze River in 1970. Back then, it was the tiniest and poorest village in the town.

However, the reform and opening-up brought vitality to the village starting from 1978. It has now evolved into a modern village thanks to its steelmaking industry.

Today, the economic strengths of Yonglian Village is among the top three in China’s 600,000 administrative villages.

"The development of China's economy is transforming from focusing on quantity to quality, showing new charms and new meanings in the countryside," said Enrique Serbeto, a reporter with Span’s ABC Newspaper.
