About 30 foreign reporters visited Yixing on November 16, as part of the Hi Jiangsu media tour.

At 9 am, drums beats and firecrackers livened up a kiln opening ceremony in Qianshu Village, Dingshu town. The event was to celebrate an ancient kiln in the shape of dragon, which is the only one in Yixing to make ceramics in the traditional way.

The reporters were amazed at the kiln that measures 43.4 meters long and 1.55 meters high.

The five major types of Yixing ceramic crafts, the zisha, celadon, juntao pottery, jingtao (fine) pottery, meicai pottery, also left a deep impression to the reporters.

"I really want to pack up the city, and appreciate it slowly," said Elena Protchenko, a reporter with the UAE’s CATV.

The reporters also visited the Service Center for the Senior Citizens of Hufu town in Yixing. The center boasts an area of 6,300 square meters and provides 18 activity rooms. It offers non-profit public canteens and invites teachers to deliver training courses on computer, cooking, health care, and performance on a regular basis.

The 82-year-old He Yuxiang was a middle school teacher before retirement. A shutterbug, he served as a volunteer photographer at the service center. "I should put more efforts on publicity and let foreign friends know about our happy life," he said happily.
