Nanjing tourism milestones - 10m tourists and 10bn yuan in revenue

During the National Day holiday from Oct. 1 to 7, Nanjing received 10.082 million domestic and foreign tourists, an increase of 15.8 percent over the same period of last year, and achieved the tourism revenue of 10.12 billion yuan, up 19.4 percent, both setting new highs for the seven-day holiday, according to the Nanjing Municipal Tourism Commission.

The city’s top tourist attractions have seen a flood of tourists. The Qinhuai River tour boat was very popular among tourists and the scenic spot welcomed 1.98 million tourists, a year-on-year increase of 26.1 percent.

About 1.175 million visitors, an increase of 6.2 percent year-on-year, visited the Zhongshan Scenic Area that offered new eco-leisure services, such as appreciating sweet-scented osmanthus and tasting vegetarian food.

Activities such as photo exhibition and sunflower shows were organized at the city’s Xuanwu Lake scenic area, which received 865,500 tourists, up 26.1 percent year on year.

The Grand Bao'en Temple, which opened a night tour for the first time, attracted 48,500 tourists, a year-on-year rise of 110.5 percent.

As of 6 pm on Oct. 3, Nanjing’s City Wall, an important cultural remain of the Ming Dynasty (1368 – 1644), greeted 62,000 tourists, an increase of 34 percent over the same period last year.

The Nanjing Municipal Bureau of Commerce also reported that sales volume reached 3.773 billion yuan, an increase of 10.62 percent, in 100 key enterprises under its study, including supermarkets, department stores and companies in home appliances, automobiles and catering. Editor:Dylan
