30 teams paddle in Suzhou's Mid-Autumn Dragon Boat Race

A total of 480 participants in 30 teams competed in the Xiangcheng 2018 Mid-Autumn Dragon Boat Race on Caohu Lake, Suzhou City of Jiangsu Province, presenting a great visual feast to thousands of spectators.

The race had two events with 12-member boats in the 300m straight race, one for 24 men’s teams and another for six women’s teams. The competition also attracted 32 foreigners from Australia, Britain, France, Switzerland and other countries and regions.

The competition included cultural and sports performances, thrilling water shows, creative markets and photography contests that proved to be very popular. The centerpiece programs were Yangcheng folk songs as well as the storytelling and ballad singing in Suzhou dialect.

With Taihu Lake in the west and Yangcheng Lake in the east, Xiangcheng is a water town boasting more than 1,100 interconnected rivers and streams.

Caohu Lake, the venue of the competition, has been an important lake in Suzhou since ancient times with a developed waterway transport system that formed a unique water culture.
