Shushan village in Suzhou has entered its most beautiful time of the year – tea-leaves picking season. On April 11, the village welcomed over 30 foreign guests from 15 countries, including the United States, Thailand, Sudan, Belgium and Azerbaijan. Like the locals, they carried on bamboo baskets, walked through tea plants and experienced tea-picking in Suzhou.

Covering 5.2 square kilometers, Shushan, literally meaning tree and mountain, has over 400 households scattered among the green hilly areas. More and more backpackers from China and abroad have visited the village thanks to its effort to develop co-tourism in recent years.

These foreign visitors tried the traditional process of making stir-fried tea to satisfy their curiosity. Some said they will take away both the unique tea and wonderful experiences to share with their family and friends, allowing them to learn more about Chinese tea culture.

The activity was planned and organized by iCity, an organization offering service especially to foreigners in Suzhou and introducing the city’s history and culture.
