Since ancient times, good traffic has meant prosperity in all sectors. In 2017, the 19th National Congress of Communist Party of China proposed a grand goal to build China's strength in transportation. Jiangsu Province also turned a new chapter amid efforts to develop into a province with a strong, high-quality transportation network.

During the two sessions this year, Lu Yongquan, a deputy to the National People’s Congress and also chief of Jiangsu Provincial Department of Transportation, said efforts will be made to shift Jiangsu from a province with large transportation scale into a strong province with good transportation network.

Jiangsu plans to realize the aim in three main aspects. First, the province will plan a comprehensive transportation system starting with forward-looking ideas. Second, the province will accelerate construction of transportation infrastructure at advanced, international levels. Third, Jiangsu will improve the quality and efficiency of transportation services.

Jiangsu is currently speeding up construction on new roads passing through the Yangtze River to address traffic congestion at its root cause, transforming areas separated by the river into zones with integrated development. Jiangsu will also boost efforts to make it run on railway tracks. By 2020, the total railway mileage will reach over 4,000 kilometers, basically realizing the aim of reaching any place in the province by rail transit in two hours.

Jiangsu will also actively push forward institutional reform of airport administrations, support airlines to be bigger with bases in Jiangsu, and strive to open new domestic and international air routes.
