United Front landmark site to be built in Changzhou

Construction to transform the Qingguo Lane in Changzhou of Jiangsu province into a well-known United Front landmark has recently started. It will take three years to build the lane into a famous cultural site in China, according to Jiangsu media on Sept 28.

Since the Ming and Qing dynasties (1368 - 1911), more than 100 notable figures came from the Qingguo Lane, including such non-Communist Party of China representatives as Shi Liang (1900-1985), former vice chairman of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, vice chairman of the National People’s Congress and chairman of the Democratic League Central Committee, Industrialist Liu Guojun (1887-1978), Painter Liu Haisu (1896 -1994) and Chinese language expert Zhou Youguang (1906-2017).

The construction of the Qingguo Lane historical and cultural street will include a comprehensive hall, three themed halls and three former residences of celebrities. It is estimated that construction of the former residence of Shi Liang and the Zhou Youguang Library will be completed by the end of 2017, the construction of the museum for litterateur Tang Jinchuan (1507-1561) and the Democratic League History Museum will be finished next year, and the construction of the former residence of linguist Zhao Yuanren (1892-1982), the Comprehensive Hall of United Front Celebrities and the former residence of Liu Guojun will be completed or open to the public by 2020.
