European Chamber Business Dialogue with Nanjing Government to Promote Open and Innovative Development

Nanjing, 12 March 2019 - The "2019 Nanjing Municipal Government Dialogue" jointly organized by the European Union Chamber of Commerce in China Nanjing Chapter and the Nanjing Association of Enterprises with Foreign Investment was held today at InterContinental Hotel. This event aimed to build a platform for communication between enterprises and government departments in nanjing, to jointly improve the level of opening up of Nanjing, to facilitate innovation-driven development, and to promote economic stability and sustainability. This year’s dialogue brought nearly 20 government representatives from a variety of municipal departments and nearly 120 representatives from more than 70 European enterprises together to discuss the most concerned issues.

A main panel featuring 4 panelists from businesses and government shared insights on industrial upgrading, tax reform and regional business environment. The ensuing discussion addressed specific economic and development policies in Nanjing such as pollution prevention policies, innovation incentive measures, talent attraction policies, tax policy adjustments, and working VISA policy. The discussions were divided into three panels by sector: AC Members and GM Discussion, Human Resources and Business Environment, and Finance and Taxation.

Mr. Bernhard Weber, the European Chamber Nanjing Chapter Chairman, Chief Representative of Chief Representative of Baden-Württemberg in China, said: “This year the Nanjing Municipal Government has established a goal of innovative, open and sustainable development. The Government Work Report delivered at the beginning of this month also signaled policies of further opening up, corporate tax and fee reduction, innovation promotion, business environment optimization. As The European Chamber would like to take this opportunity to share the concerns and suggestions from European business with local government and work together to build a stable, transparent and open business environment that enables our members to expand investment, to create more job opportunities and to promote regional development."

After the meeting, the participants from enterprises and the government representatives had dinner together and communicated freely.
