China’s first graphene products quality supervision and inspection center at the national level was unveiled in Wuxi Graphene Industry Development & Demonstration Zone on Sept 29.

This marked the early stage of Huishan District’s industrial cluster that encompasses manufacturing, application and R&D and testing of graphene products, which is now at the forefront of China’s graphene industry.

Established by the Wuxi branch of the Special Equipment Safety Supervision Inspection Institute of Jiangsu Province, the center is equipped with the first spherical aberration corrected transmission electron microscope in China’s quality inspection industry and has set up 11 material laboratories which are able to gauge 30 national standard parameters. It has provided testing services for graphene and related products in 20 provinces and cities across the country.

The district built the Wuxi Graphene Industry Development & Demonstration Zone in 2013, China’s first industrial base featuring the new material of graphene under the China Torch Program. The zone is now home to more than 50 high-end enterprises in the application of graphene products, becoming a hot spot for domestic and overseas investment in the graphene industry. Since last year, it has made great strides, hosting the first Chinese studio of Konstantin Novoselov, “Father of Graphene” and winner of Nobel Prize in Physics, building the only offshore incubator for University of Glasgow on graphene research, and introducing several international cooperation projects such as the smart electronic skin project.
