The Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (CSHL) of the United States and the Suzhou Industrial Park signed a new 10-year cooperation agreement on Sept 17.

Under the new agreement, the CSHL will establish an Asia academic center in addition to the current Cold Spring Harbor Asia Conferences.

The CSHL is a private, non-profit institution with research programs focusing on cancer, neuroscience, plant biology, genomics, and quantitative biology. It has been home to eight Nobel Prize laurates.

Last year, Suzhou Industrial Park ranked first in the comprehensive evaluation of China’s economic development zones, stepped into the top five national high-tech zones, and got selected into the initiative to construct world's leading high-tech parks launched by the Ministry of Science and Technology.

Suzhou Industrial Park churned out 238.8 billion yuan, up 7.4 percent year-on-year. Its three core industries of biomedicine, artificial intelligence and nanotechnology, realized an output of 61.5 billion yuan, 35 billion yuan and 50 billion yuan, respectively, representing an increase of 28 percent, 30 percent and 36 percent year-on-year. Introducing 17 research institutes so far this year, the Suzhou Industrial Park is now home to 42 research institutes.
