Huaian's foreign trade growth ranks 4th in Jiangsu

In the first half of 2018, Huaian’s total import and export reached 15.59 billion yuan($2.3 billion), and a year-on-year increase of 21.6 percent, which ranked third in northern Jiangsu area and fourth in the province.

Huaian saw its import and export with the US, the EU and ASEAN at 3.22 billion yuan, 2.88 billion yuan and 1.91 billion yuan respectively, a growth of 22.1 percent, 7.7 percent and 32.3 percent in order. The three regions accounted for 51.4 percent of the city’s total foreign trade.

Meanwhile, nearly 39.7 percent of the city’s total import and export came from the development zone, which reached 6.18 billion yuan and an increase of 18.2 percent.

In the first half of the year, Huaiyin District of the city achieved an import and export of 2.45 billion yuan, an increase of 2.4 times, and mainly mechanical and electrical and textile products.

Huaian ensured a stable export growth in industries with traditional advantages, such as exporting 3.53 billion yuan of mechanical and electrical products, an increase of 11 percent, and 2.42 billion yuan of yarns and garments. The two sectors contributed to 58.1 percent of the city’s total export.

In the first half of the year, 804 enterprises in the city reported actual foreign trade activities, 67 more over the same period of last year and a rise of 9.1 percent.

Among them, seven companies had the import and export scale exceeding 500 million yuan, and 20 over 100 million yuan.

The trade volume of production enterprises in the city reached 13.77 billion yuan, up 26.3 percent than the same period last year, and it accounted for 88.4 percent of the city's total import and export.
