In the first half of the year, the volumes of waterway freight and turnover in Jiangsu province were both in a state of growth, according to Jiangsu media on July 10.

Ports above designated size are expected to complete cargo throughput of 1.142 billion tons, with foreign trade throughput of 247 million tons and container throughput at 8.75 million TEUs.

Up to now, Jiangsu has a total of 3,455 kilometers of high-grade waterways at Level four or above, ranking first in the country. The province has built 42 integrated freight hubs and gradually improved the infrastructure for comprehensive freight hub featuring multimodal transport. Some important ports have direct access to expressway, and several ports including Nanjing are directly linked by railway.

By the end of the 13th Five-Year Plan (2016-2020), Jiangsu strives to build 51 multimodal transport freight hubs and 159 general-purpose cargo distribution centers. The province aims to have integrated freight hubs available at all cities divided into districts and about half of key port areas along the coast and river as well as ports along inland rivers.
