New-energy vehicle startup Byton opened its global headquarters at Nanjing Economic Development Zone, becoming the first NEV headquarters located in Jiangsu Province on June 11.

Byton's factory in Nanjing has made steady progress in construction, with plans to mass produce and launch the first batch of cars in the fourth quarter of 2019.

As the first top NEV brand in Jiangsu, it will now move 40 percent of staff from its research and development center in Silicon Valley in the U.S. and design center in Munich, Germany, into the new office in Nanjing.

According to Jiang Yuejian, vice-mayor of Nanjing, the city is home to new energy vehicle enterprises including Byton, Yinlong, King Long and BYD. If all NEV projects can achieve their production targets, the annual capacity will reach two million vehicles, so Nanjing is doing its best to optimize the NEV industry eco-system by strengthening the building of technology, talent, capital, land and markets. The move aims to promote NEV industry into an iconic sector in Nanjing, with national importance and a world reputation.
