Authentic Brazilian flavor is to come to Kunshan in May, as a business delegation from Brazil’s state of Minas Gerais is to attend the China Import Expo (CIE), Kunshan 2017.

The business delegation, made up by ten companies from Minas Gerais, is to show to Chinese customers coffee, honey, rum, olive oil and natural food.

Although she will have to travel across the planet and overcome a jetlag of 11 hours, when talking about the coming CIE, Mrs. Cristiane Serpa, president of the Integrated Development Institute of Minas Gerais (INDI), is still full of anticipation, as CIE presents an opportunity, “for companies in Minas Gerais to come to China and study the market here.

“We want to talk to the buyers in China to learn what they need and how they feel. We also want to see the products in the Chinese market.” Mrs. Serpa said, “so that we can help the companies in Minas Gerais to get ready for the Chinese market.”

Located in Southeastern Brazil, Minas Gerais ranks as the second most populous state, and the fourth largest by area in the country. With vast land and rich natural resources, Minas Gerais is a major producer of milk, coffee, corn, cotton and other agricultural commodities, as well as minerals.

All ten exhibiting companies to the CIE are from the food industry, which to some extent represents the iconic image of Minas Gerais. “We have done some research to the Chinese market, and found that Chinese customers have quite some demand for products like coffee and olive oil.” Mrs. Serpa said, “By exhibiting our products, we’d like to offer Chinese customers some more alternatives.”

Apart from the exhibiting products, the business delegation from Minas Gerais is also bringing three chefs, who are to prepare authentic food with Minas flavor at the expo.

Although it is the first time for Minas Gerais to attend the CIE, the Brazilian state has long been a good friend to Jiangsu. The two sides established the relation of sister-provinces in 1996, and have maintained close ties ever since. More cooperation could be expected in the future in fields like science research, education, soccer and etc., according to Mrs. Serpa.

The China Import Expo in Kunshan is the first professional international expo which aims to promote and expand imports of foreign products in China. CIE 2017 will set up two main exhibiting sectors for Intelligent Manufacturing and Brand Consumer Goods. Starting on May 17, the three-day event is expected to attract over 50,000 visitors.
