First-quarter imports of vegetable oil through Zhangjiagang Port totaled 400,000 tons and US$324 million, up 31.7 percent from the same period of last year, according to the city’s entry-exit inspection and quarantine bureau.
Last month, vegetable oil imports through the port jumped 13.3 percent in volume and 30 percent in value. Zhangjiagang is China’s main port for vegetable oil imports. The imports volume of palm oil through Zhangjiagang Port accounted for 70 percent of the national total.
Zhangjiagang, a satellite city of Suzhou, attributed its thriving port business to excellent services, good location and a big consumer market in the Yangtze River region.
