Suzhou nonagenarian visits Great Wall Station in Antarctic

At 15:46 of February 9, local time, 92-year-old Qiu Xiegeng from Suzhou City arrived at China’s Great Wall Station in Antarctica.

For Qiu, the Antarctic is the seventh continent and the 56th country or region that he has set foot on.

Qiu has been passionate about winter swimming for more than 30 years, and was named Suzhou Sports Talent for two consecutive years in 2016 and 2017. As a traveler, his has left his footprints all over the world.

Qiu began to prepare for his trip to Antarctica three months ago, buying equipment and working out for it. Qiu and his son Qiu Xiaoxiang embarked on the expedition on February 5, and landed on the remote continent on the afternoon of February 9, local time (morning of February 10 in Beijing time) via Canada, Chile and other countries.

Qiu said that although he is 92 years old, he has always told himself that one must keep workout to keep fit and healthy. Meanwhile, he always reminds himself to learn new things and stay curious about the world.
