Jakub from Poland is spending his seventh Spring Festival in Nanjing. In the summer of 2009, he was sent to the Nanjing office by his employer as a coordinator of plant relocation. He then fell in love with the city, its food, and a Nanjing woman. In 2013, Jakub and his wife and son made the decision to settle down in the city.

For him, China is a paradise for food. In Poland, people only occasionally eat crabs and crayfish. In his first summer in Nanjing, Jakub said he felt so happy every day because he could easily find crayfish at any street store he walked into, cooked in ways ranging from garlic and spicy to other flavors. He ate crayfish every day at that time. Then in autumn, crabs taste very juicy. “Once you taste crab, you become obsessed with it,” said Jakub. Every time he returned to Poland, he began to miss Chinese food in a few days.

Jakub said the great variety of delicious food was also a challenge to him. "I can't stop eating and soon I eat too much." He wanted to have outdoor workouts, but the city seems to only have summer and winter, either too cold or too hot for him. In the past several years, his weight increased 10 kilograms. Looking at his wedding photo, he said he missed the old days when he kept fit.

Jakub said people stared at him when he spent the first Spring Festival at the home of his parents-in-law. Today, after six years, he no longer has to face the embarrassment. “I like my life in Nanjing. I like food, the natural beauty and the lovely Nanjing people. My parents-in-law are getting old, and we will take them to travel more." After the second day of the Lunar New Year, they will go to visit Rome.
