Income level in Yancheng rural areas tops northern Jiangsu

Yancheng’s economic growth featured stability, coordination and sustainability in 2018, making strides in overall high-quality development.

The city's GDP reached 548.7 billion yuan and the fiscal revenue stood at 38.1 billion yuan, up 5.8 percent. Tax revenue rose 4.6 percentage points to account for 80.1 percent.

Yancheng’s economy and financial strength both ranked 7th in the province as a whole, and was behind Nantong and Xuzhou cities in the northern and central Jiangsu. The city’s per capita GDP exceeded $11,000 and foreign trade reached nearly $10 billion.

The added value of the city's service industry increased by 8.1 percent. The total number of automobiles produced and sold in 2018 exceeded 5 million. Carmaker Dongfeng Yueda Kia exported its first batch of sedans to Egypt, the first step in tapping the overseas market.

The contribution rate of scientific and technological progress reached 56 percent in Yancheng, an increase of 1.1 percentage points over the previous year. There were 285 new high-tech enterprises in the city, the fourth highest growth in the province and first in north and central Jiangsu.

Investment for research and development accounted for 2.1 percent of the city’s GDP, up 0.07 percentage points.

The output value of high-tech companies accounted for 37 percent of the total of industrial enterprises above designated size. Strategic emerging industries grew by 22 percent, accounting for 23.7 percent of total industrial output.

The city’s applications for invention patents reached 10,547, up 15.4 percent. A total of 1,490 invention patents were granted, an increase of 7.2 percent.

Yancheng Port added 3 berths, able to handle 100,000-ton ships, and delivered 95 million tons of goods. The city’s deep-water channel, able to handle 300,000-ton ships, in the Binhai Port area, was included in the Huaihe River Ecological Economic Belt. Yancheng was also approved as a National Marine Economic Development Demonstration Zone.

The city's total imports and exports reached $9.55 billion, an increase of 10.4 percent over the previous year. The actual foreign capital received amounted $913 million, an increase of 15.8 percent year on year, the fastest growth in the province.

Yancheng also ranked first in Jiangsu in terms of new energy installed capacity and power generation. The city’s 39 percent of electricity use came from new energy, the province's highest.

In addition, the per capita disposable income of urban and rural residents in the city was 35,896 yuan and 20,357 yuan, an increase of 8.4 percent and 8.8 percent, respectively. The income level ranked first in northern Jiangsu. Editor:Dylan
