Jiangsu has vowed to create a green express delivery model that can be promoted and replicated nationwide, according to a press conference held by Jiangsu Provincial Postal Administration and Jiangsu Provincial Department of Ecology and Environment on October 31, as approximately 190 million packages will be delivered in the province during the “Double Eleven” Shopping Festival.

Jiangsu reported a daily delivery of more than 10 million packages in the first six months. Amid the booming e-commerce, packaging materials such as tapes, plastic bags and foam fillings were essentially non-degradable garbage and causing pollution.

Alibaba's logistics affiliate Cainiao Network, retail giant Suning, and China Post Jiangsu Branch released their action plans to make courier delivery environmentally friendly.

Cainiao Network introduced management norms to save energy and water in its warehouses as well as recycling of abandoned packaging materials.

Suning’s logistics arm also adopted a series of environmental protection measures and reduced white pollution by about 28 percent.

As of the end of last year, China Post Jiangsu Branch purchased 1,441 new energy vehicles, and increased the use rate of electronic express sheets to over 90 percent.

Jiangsu Provincial Postal Administration and Jiangsu Provincial Department of Ecology and Environment signed a strategic cooperation framework agreement aimed at pooling efforts in greening the postal services, such as promoting energy-conserving and environment-protecting packaging materials, using green vehicles, and carrying out pilot projects to recycle packages.
