Yangzhou Taizhou International Airport, often abbreviated to Yangtai Airport, announced significant progress made in the first phase expansion project, according to a statement on Oct. 7.

The airport will kick off the test flight in November and be put into use before the end of the year after it has completed the project acceptance and flight inspection.

The main part of the expansion project was completed in August. The new 800-meter runway and the original runway were connected, as the new 3,200-meter runway has taken shape.

After the completion of the first phase of the expansion project, the airport will be upgraded from category 4C to 4E with enhanced logistics capability, meaning it can accommodate the wide-body aircraft such as the Boeing 747 and the Airbus A340 in the future.

The airport plans to handle over 2.4 million passengers this year, upgrading to a small hub-airport, and achieving the goal - 2 million passengers.
