Jiangsu leads the nation in water resources management

Jiangsu Province ranked first in the assessment of implementing the strictest management system for water resources in 2017, according to the national workgroup in charge of the evaluation.

The workgroup assessed the implementation of the State Council’s mechanism in 31 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities, giving priorities to parameters of the water consumption amount, efficiency, pollution control in functional areas, system building and implementation of measures.

Through comprehensive evaluation, all 31 province-level regions passed the annual review, with Jiangsu, Shandong, Anhui, Beijing, Zhejiang, Shanghai and Chongqing rated excellent.

The assessment results showed that in 2017, 604.34 billion cubic meters of water were consumed in China, which was basically the same as that of the previous year.

The water consumption per 10,000 yuan of GDP decreased by 13.2 percent compared with 2015, and the water consumption per 10,000 yuan of industrial added value was down by 15.2 percent than the level in 2015.

China's effective utilization coefficient of irrigation water was 0.548, up 0.006 over the previous year. The water quality compliance rate in important rivers and lakes was 76.9 percent, an increase of 3.5 percentage points over the previous year.
