An African student volunteered to direct traffic when he found a snarl-up at an intersection of Suzhou Industrial Park at about 6.00 p.m. on Sept. 2, with the help of two other students also from African a few minutes later.

The three helpers have received a lot of praise after their photos were shared online.

One of them is from Nigeria and a graduate student at Soochow University. The student, who preferred to be called with his Chinese name, Gao Guang, said he was simply doing a right thing and he asked his two classmates to help ease traffic.

Gao also received a whistle from local traffic police as a recognition of his assistance and said he will cherish this souvenir.

At present, there are more than 40 African students in Soochow University. In this month, a group of African students from Algeria, Tunisia and Egypt will come to study in Suzhou. Editor:Dylan
