Wuxi releases three-year action plan for Smart City

The Wuxi Municipal Government officially announced a three-year action plan to build itself into a smart city on Aug. 8. Huang Qin, acting deputy mayor of Wuxi, said that Wuxi as a smart city will feature the use of the Internet of Things by 2020.

Wuxi is among the first batch of cities to pilot smart city initiative and also takes the lead nationwide in its endeavor. From 2012 to 2015, Wuxi won the first place in the development of smart city for four consecutive years in China. In March, Wuxi ranked first in China in the list of “Top 20 Smart Cities in the World” by the third-party international organizations.

Gao Yaguang, deputy mayor of Wuxi City, said the three-year action plan will promote the deep integration of the new generation of information technology led by the Internet of Things with the economy and society, comprehensively enhancing the level of urban intelligence. During the three years, Wuxi will carry out six major campaigns - Big Data application, smart industry, smart governance, smart life, information network and information security, and implement 36 key projects. The city will also establish a Big Data management service center to coordinate the collection, exchange, sharing and utilization of data.
