Xuyi pioneers new model of ‘Internet plus home-based senior care’

”I bought a hospital bed but can’t move it into my room. Please send over some people to help.”

An aged resident in Xuyi County, Jiangsu Province called the 12349 hotline of the county’s civil affairs bureau on the afternoon of May 4, and explained the difficulty to a staff. On the other side of the line, the caller’s information including name, family address and health conditions were displayed automatically on the screen thanks to the Smart Elderly Care Platform. Less than 20 minutes after the call, two workers from the Smart Elderly Care Center had already arrived at the caller’s door.

With a total population of 805,200, Xuyi is home to 148,200 people aged over 60. To meet the growing demand for elderly care, the county is working to build a new model of “Internet plus home-based elderly care” by adopting Internet thinking and innovative approach to senior care field.

The 12349 Hotline Service Center, launched on October 27, 2017, is established by Xuyi County Civil Affairs Bureau to offer 24-hour service for aged residents both online and offline. The county government pays for services such as assisted dining, outgoing and doctor visits for local residents over 78 years old. These residents can also receive a special locator device with emergency call function, which enables them to send messages to the center for help.

In addition, the center has gathered more than 120 service providersincluding catering and housekeeping enterprises as well as social organizations. It has established partnership with community elderly care centers and nursing homes. Besides, a green channel has been launched at the Xuyi County People’s Hospital to better serve the elderly patients.
