Wang Fan, who lives in Suining County, Xuzhou city, is planning to build a 2,000-square-meter mega garden and hopes to turn it into a mutual-help venue for senior citizens within 10 years.

Wang, 50, originally built the garden just for his father, who had difficulties in mobility in his advanced years. "The significance of this garden is not that there will be flowers and fruits. More importantly, it is a paradise for my father's old age and it represents being around him," said Wang.

After his father passed away, Wang decided to transform the garden into a mutual-help old-age community. He plans to expand the original 300-square-meter garden to 2,000 square meters, of which more than 1,000 square meters are lush with more than 200 kinds of plants. Wang uses three-dimensional planting, automatic spray and other technologies, and has mapped out 11 areas for vegetables, ornamental ponds, fish ponds, sunbath rooms, outdoor dining areas, outdoor recreation areas and workshops, etc..

As the garden takes shape, Wang has come up with a new, bigger idea: He doesn’t just want to make his garden beautiful, but also make the whole village beautiful. He began to sow the seeds of flowers and grass along the village’s riverside and plans to make village roads a sightseeing route. His project to build a garden-style village is well on its way.
