International Forum on Urban Drainage kicks off in Nanjing

Nearly 300 experts and scholars from China and Britain gathered in Nanjing to focus on urban flood control and drainage problems.

At nine o'clock Tuesday morning, the third urban flood control and drainage forum went underway in Hohai University.

Zhang Jianyun and six other academicians from china and Britain attended the forum alongside with a large number of industry expert to discuss issues centering on urban rainstorm and flood, urban flood control and sponge city construction.

Under the impact of global warming and human activities, urban flood and waterlogging has become one of the universal problems faced by all countries in the world.

Jiangsu, whose water area accounts for one-sixth of the land area of the province, also faces the stubborn problem of urban waterlogging.

In order to reshape the urban water environment for sustainable development, China has vigorously promoted the pilot construction of "sponge city" since 2015. In the process of increasing the construction of "sponge City", the practicability is the key in addition to solving the high construction cost problem, said experts at the forum.
