Gu Songxue is a household name in Hangji town of Yangzhou. He works as a postman in Hangji Post Office of the Yangzhou Branch of China Post and is a deputy to the 19th CPC National Congress.

Gu has delivered more than 5 million letters in his 32 years of service. In the more than three decades, he has walked 470,000 kilometers in this small town, which is equivalent to walking around the earth 12 times, wore out 10 bikes and electric motor cycles, and works all year long except on the first day of the lunar New Year.

Just like the first day he became a postman 32 years ago, the 54-year-old Gu still gets up at 5:30 am, has breakfast, puts on his uniform and Party emblem, and leaves for work on his motorcycle. He has to be in the Hangji Post Office before 6:30 am.

As a famous distributing base of hotel supplies in China, Hangji has a large volume of deliveries, with over 300 newspapers and magazines and more than 100 letters per day, and Gu has to deliver them one by one. There are a lot of plastic bags in his office and on his motorcycle in case of rain. "If it's raining, I'll put the deliveries in the plastic bag, so they won't get wet or damaged."

There are often "dead letters" that have no recipient or the address is not specific enough, but Gu never rejects them. Instead, he writes down the information and asks around until he can deliver them to the right recipient. In August and September every year, when college admission letters are issued, Gu, in order to send the letters to the right student in a timely manner, always screens the addresses first and asks the teachers if the address is not specific enough, and then delivers the letters in person.
