Nanjing’s all black, odorous rivers in urban areas to disappear

Renovations of a total of 109 rivers in the urban areas of Nanjing, Jiangsu province, is set to be complete by the end of 2017, according to Jiangsu media on September 6.

The black and malodorous rivers were scheduled to be rectified and renovated in two years, and in 2016, the rectification of 41 rivers was finished.

As a result, the monitoring and measuring results showed the water quality of the 41 rivers renovated in 2016 improved. Relevant environmental protection departments have also conducted several on-site spot checks for these rivers, discovering the rivers have a normal color and odor, without garbage or floating materials on the water surface.

At present, there are 392 rivers, with a total distance of about 970 kilometers, in the urban areas of Nanjing in Jiangsu province: including 150 black and malodorous rivers, with a distance of about 324 kilometers, based on China’s national standard for black and malodorous rivers.
