Jaywalkers in Nanjing could be caught on camera and identified using face recognition technology.

Traffic police in Nanjing adopted the equipment that can film pedestrians and face match anybody crossing the street on a red light on Aug 10.

The equipment can capture human faces and extract facial characteristics to dynamically examine human faces, and issue real time warning. Close up photos of pedestrian offenders could be released and they could be warned or fined.

Two sets of such equipment have been installed at intersections on Hongwu Road and Huaihai Road, and Zhongshan Road and Zhujiang Road.
