Fabio Capello, the ex-England and Russia coach, has signed with Jiangsu Suning on an 18-month contract worth a yearly salary of 10 million euros, the Chinese Super League (CSL) club announced on Sunday.

The appointment is in consideration of the “strategic progress of the club,” said Jiangsu, expressing hope that Capello “will bring advanced ideas and methods on club management, coaches training and youth team training.”

Jiangsu have been on the lookout for a new boss after South Korea's Choi Yong-Soo resigned in early June.

Capello, 70, has won five Serie A titles – four with AC Milan and one with Roma – plus two La Liga crowns with Real Madrid. He also won the Champions League during his time with Milan.

Jiangsu are struggling near the bottom of the CSL and were eliminated by Shanghai SIPG in the first knockout stage of the AFC Champions League.

Capello is the third big-name Italian coaching in China following Marcello Lippi and Fabio Cannavaro.

Nearly half way into the season, four CSL clubs have changed their head coaches since May, including Tianjin Teda's Jaime Pacheco, Changchun Yatai's Lee Jang-soo, Guizhou Hengfeng Zhicheng's Li Bin and Jiangsu's Choi.
