Zhenjiang celebrates 100th birthday of Yan Zhongwan

Yan Wanzhong is the eldest daughter of Yan Huiyi, a patriotic entrepreneur of Zhenjiang. She started to learn about the cultivation of silkworms at the age of 12. She went abroad when she was 17 years old. Two years later, she began a lifelong career in sericulture until she retired at the age of 70 from a Zhenjiang silkworm field to take care of her mother.

Yan was involved in the preparation of Chinese sericulture brochures and the agricultural encyclopedia of silkworm mulberry. She was named China's March 8 Red-Banner Pacesetter in 1979. In 1992, she was selected into Zhenjiang’s Dictionary of Figures. In 1994, she was named "Dedication Worker in Silkworm Mulberry" by the China Silk Association.

Currently, Yan serves as member of CPPCC Jiangsu Provincial Committee, representative of Zhenjiang People's Congress and member of CPPCC Zhenjiang Committee. She has always been focused on science and personnel training. She leads a sericulture cultivation team with strict management and careful cultivation.
