Suzhou traffic authorities are promoting a new management system to local driving schools and 14 schools with about 13,000 students, 15 percent of the city’s total, have adopted the system that allows students to choose hours, change teachers and forbids abusive behavior and bribe seeking on the part of teachers.

Huayuan Driving School general manager, Zhu Huiming, said that switching to the new system meant extra cost of about 20 million yuan (US$3.2 million). It will take the school at least five years to recover the cost.

Officials at the Suzhou Traffic Management Department said they let driving schools using the new system and those not using the system to compete for market. It is the driving learners who will decide their fate. Editor:Hiram
