A train crash near the South African capital Pretoria has injured more than two hundred people, including about 50 children on their way to school.

A busy commuter train collided with a stationary train on Thursday morning outside Kalafong train station, some 20 kilometers from Pretoria. Emergency services say there were no fatalities, but the driver of one of the trains was in a critical condition with badly damaged legs.

Most of the injured were taken to local hospitals by the road ambulance, with only the seriously injured taken by air. Metrorail, the owners of the track where the accident occurred, indicated that a signal failure had caused the collision.
