In Japan, the nation that gave birth to 'cosplay', Halloween is all the rage. Children and adults alike are revelling in the opportunity to dress up and take on a spooky character. There are colourful parades, costume parties and even pumpkin-inspired desserts everywhere.

 

In Mexico, one candy maker is raising the stakes this Halloween when it comes to spooky with chewable candy ears, bloody feet, eyes, ears and noses.

In the United States, a toddler dressed like the pope and pushed along in a popemobile got the top prize at President Barack Obama's White House Halloween. The boy was among hundreds of local schoolchildren and children from military families who got to go trick or treating at the White House. But it's not just people that are having all the fun this year.

 

Residents of a zoo in Ukraine's capital Kiev were served carved pumpkins for supper to celebrate the holiday. But some of the animals appeared to prefer to play with the pumpkins instead of eating them.
