Major events during Xi's trip

President Xi Jinping had a tight schedule during his five-day state visit to the UK with more than 20 events packed into his schedule.


The events included meeting the royal family, addressing the British parliament, attending a business meeting, touring universities and high-tech companies, and holding talks with British Prime Minister David Cameron. Here's a wrap-up now of Xi's visit from Zheng Yibing.


President Xi began his state visit to the United Kingdom on Monday evening local time when (Evening, Monday) his plane touched down at London Heathrow Airport.


At mid day on Tuesday (Mid day, Oct. 20), the Chinese president received a glittering welcome, complete with rare London sunshine. A 41-gun salute was fired in Green Park and the president was formally welcomed by Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh, and Prime Minister David Cameron.


Xi later addressed both Houses of the British Parliament and stressed bilateral ties during his speech.


"It is fair to say that China and Britain are 'increasingly interdependent' and becoming 'a community of shared interests,'" Xi said.


Xi held talks with Prime Minister David Cameron at 10 Downing Street on Wednesday afternoon (October 21st). Cameron highly praised China-UK relations after the meeting.


And Cameron wants to deepen bilateral business cooperation with China. Both leaders later attended the China-UK Business Summit and finalized 28 business deals worth about 62 billion US dollars.


On Thursday (Morning, October 22), President Xi bid farewell to Queen Elizabeth at Buckingham Palace, and travelled to Manchester from London.


On Friday morning, (Morning, October 23), Xi visited Manchester in the north of England with British Finance Minister George Osborne on the final day of his state visit. He left the UK to return to Beijing in the afternoon local time, concluding his state visit to the UK. Editor:Rose
